Wizards' John Wall needs Achilles surgery; out another year

Wizards' Wall to have surgery on ruptured left Achilles

Dr. Robert Anderson of Green Bay, Wisc., will perform the surgery to fix the torn Achilles, but no date has been scheduled for the procedure.

The 28-year-old Wall's Achilles surgery has not been scheduled yet.

The team released a statement saying he ruptured his left Achilles tendon following the initial January 8 surgery.

On Tuesday, the Washington Wizards announced John Wall has had surgery to fix a ruptured Achilles' tendon. As for this new rupture, Wall apparently slipped and fell in his home.

The 6-8 month window would have had Wall returning by September at the latest, giving him plenty of time to contribute to his team.

Wizards Director of Medical Services and Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih found the rupture during a procedure to clean out the infection.

Wall was limited to 41 games last season, mostly because of surgery on his left knee.

To make matters worse, this is how he suffered the injury. "Wall is expected to return to full basketball activity in approximately 12 months from the time of the surgery". And Achilles injuries are known to be hard to return from at all, let alone do so at the skill level held prior.

Wall is set to make $37.8 million in 2019-20 as part of a supermax contract extension with the Wizards.

Wall contributed 20.7 points per game to the Wizards this season in 32 matches.

After a 137-129 loss at home against the last-place Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, the Wizards are 22-31 and tied for 10th in the Eastern Conference.
