Who Is Anthony Edwards? Five-star 2019 Prospect Commits to Georgia

Georgia coach Tom Crean speaks during the SEC men’s NCAA college basketball media day in Birmingham Ala. More

Edwards would certainly be a huge get for the Bulldogs, as they have not had a five-star enrollee in several years.

ATLANTA (AP) - Anthony Edwards, a shooting guard from Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta rated as the nation's No. 2 prospect, says he will sign with Georgia.

Edwards says Georgia's Tom Crean coached his two favorite players, Dwyane Wade at Marquette and Victor Oladipo at Indiana.

However, Texas basketball and Georgia's 2019 recruiting classes are separated by the slimmest of margins in the national rankings.

"The reason I picked the University of Georgia is because it's my home school", Edwards told ESPN's Paul Biancardi. Some of his highlights are absolutely incredible, showing that he can live above the rim.

The shooting guard visited both Georgia and Kentucky but never accepted an invitation to visit Kansas and North Carolina.

He trails only Memphis center James Wiseman on the recruiting chart, but is still the top-rated shooting guard and the No. 1 overall prospect from the state of Georgia.

Edwards, excited about the program's future, has high expectations.

Top-five senior Anthony Edwards announced his commitment to Georgia on Monday morning, becoming the Bulldogs' highest-ranked recruit in the ESPN recruiting era. He should be projected as a top three selection for the 2020 NBA Draft at the absolute worst.

Edwards lives approximately 90 minutes away from Georgia's campus and he admitted the opportunity of remaining close to his family while at college was very important to him. In addition to Edwards, the Bulldogs have two four-star commitments in Jaykwon Walton and Toumani Camara.
