Toronto police identify woman who allegedly threw chair off balcony

Woman throws chair off Toronto balcony, police investigating

Toronto police say they have identified the woman who threw a chair from a high-rise balcony onto a highway, and have asked her to surrender.

The video cuts out before the chair she's seen tossing lands on the highway, so it's not possible to determine if it hits a auto or causes an accident. She then stands up straight and looks into the camera as she appears to speak briefly before turning and throwing the chair off the balcony.

The video, believed to be posted on Snapchat, shows a blonde woman standing on the balcony of a condo building holding a patio chair before launching it over the edge of the railing.

It caught the attention of users of Reddit who expressed safety concerns and sparked the police investigation.

Hopkinson said he obtained a copy of the video on Sunday and police began to investigate on Monday.

The items, which police say were thrown from a "very high floor" in the building, landed in front of the entrance to the condo, police said in a news release.

The investigation is now classified as a "mischief investigation, endangering life". He said the police are seeking the public's help in identifying the woman.

"People can stop calling now", Hopkinson said. "People do foolish things".
