Houston Police Department's Major Offenders, Livestock Animal Cruelty Unit responded to the scene, the report said.
The garage, which is in a home southeast of central Houston, was secured only with a screwdriver and a nylon strap, the station reported. It is now on its way to an undisclosed animal sanctuary while officers try to find its owner. Packages of meat were discovered with the animal.
They were in the house to smoke marijuana - but this was no drug trip.
And that's because tigers don't make for great pets, Krahn said. "They saw a tiger in this building, this vacant house that's obviously been abandoned for some time".
The concerned smoker called cops when they stumbled across a overweight tiger in a cage in an unlocked garage. Police did not confirm if an owner had been identified. "So it was important that we get it out of that situation", Lara Cottingham, with the city of Houston, said. "It's a lovely animal and we want it to live a happy healthy life".
The tiger was tranquilized and taken to BARC Houston, a city organization dedicated to humane animal care, NBC Houston and Fox 26 Houston reported.
But after obtaining a warrant, they found a 25-stone female tiger in deplorable conditions in the house in Houston, Texas. "Malayan tigers surviving on the Malay Peninsula are critically endangered with an estimated population of 300 remaining in the wild".
BET apologises for tweet insulting Nicki Minaj
In it, the network said it "deeply apologizes for the hurt, disappointment and confusion" caused by the social media post. Someone over at BET had to learn the hard way - you do not come for Nicki Minaj unless she sends for you.
