Thunder waive guard Alex Abrines, report says

Thunder have reportedly waived guard Alex Abrines on Saturday

Abrines, who was expected to be a key piece of the Thunder's rotation, played in all but three of the team's first 29 games.

He has played in two games since December 23.

The team and Abrines mutually decided for the 6-foot-6 guard to be released, with Abrines determining it best to step away from basketball to focus on his personal issue.

"He's still battling through some things and wasn't able to be here tonight".

In three seasons with the Thunder, Abrines started 16 times in 174 games and averaged 5.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. "Honestly, we go day-by-day with him and continue to be supportive with him".

Abrines will be a free agent this summer, but it is unclear if he will remain in the United States or opt to return to his native Spain. The 25-year-old player had signed with the Thunder in 2016, after spending four seasons in EuroLeague with Barcelona.

With the move, the Thunder's roster is down to 12 guaranteed contracts and two two-way contracts (Donte Grantham, Deonte Burton).

Abrines appeared in 31 games for the Thunder this season averaging just over five points and one rebound in 19 minutes per contest.
