The District may get a little trace amount of snow accumulating but it'll all get washed away as we switch over to rain Monday morning. Snow is expected to arrive Tuesday morning.

8 p.m. Residents of the Pacific Northwest took to neighbourhood hills with skis, sleds or even just laundry baskets Saturday to celebrate an unusual dump of snow in a region more accustomed to winter rain.

According to forecasts the weather service made early Monday, towns in Greater Boston are most likely to see 3-6 inches of snow during the storm, with precipitation turning into freezing rain Wednesday morning. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm are likely before the snow tapers off during the day Wednesday.

With temperatures already in the teens or single digits, meteorologists predict low temperature records could be broken on Sunday.

Another storm system is arriving now into Iowa and Minnesota.

It was 9 degrees in Arlington, Washington early Sunday.

The weather service says that was colder than the Arctic coast or North Slope of Alaska.

The rest of the week includes daytime highs of 3 C on Tuesday, - 2 C on Wednesday, 1 C on Thursday and 2 C on Friday.

Seattle schools will be closed Monday, along with other area schools. A very strong easterly wind will cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow.

The snowstorm, which started moving through the area around noon, should bring less than an inch of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service. KIEM-TV posted photos of Clam Beach in Arcata covered in fresh powder.
