Michelle Obama's Mom Doesn't Think She's a "Real Star"

Michelle Obama’s text exchange with mom is so relatable

Millions of viewers may have been beside themselves Sunday when former First Lady Michelle Obama showed up unexpectedly on stage alongside Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett Smith, but at least one person was not impressed: Her mother.

Michelle Obama's surprise appearance was the talk of the Grammys - but her own mother was a little underwhelmed.

Mrs Obama made a surprise appearance on stage at the awards on February 10, alongside Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez and host Alicia Keys.

"I guess you were a hit at the Grammys", Robinson texted her daughter.

Obama asked her mom if she watched it and Robinson replied: "I saw it because Gracie called me". Especially, when Michelle tried to argue her case by writing, "And I'm a real star...by the way", her mother had nothing to say in reply except an unconvinced "Yeah".

Giving Michelle the ultimate reality check after her Grammys debut, Marian brought her daughter back down to earth in a series of text messages. "Music shows us that all of it matters".

Obama wrote that she thought she had told her about it, and then added a Peak Daughter clapback.

And if Robinson's classic mom-shade is any indicator she never got overawed by the situation.

Obama shared the entire text chain on her Instagram account, and wrote that she had also told the audience at her appearance on her book tour stop in Phoenix about it.

Despite the friendly banter between Obama and her mother, the two actually have a very close relationship, as Robinson revealed in her first every televised interview previous year.
