Michelle Obama delights Grammy crowd with girl power message

Grammy 2019,61st Grammy Awards 2019,Alicia Keys

Looking ahead to the future of music, the Grammys put an emphasis this year on showcasing women in music. She went on to reveal that she struggled to finish the album and videos before she began to show during her pregnancy, and the moment could hardly be any realer as she celebrated her victory of becoming the first solo woman to win this award.

Another fan, @curtisstephen tweeted, "Alicia Keys just walked us through the history of American popular music with a virtuoso performance that was truly was one of the greatest of all-time on the Grammy stage".

But Gambino, alter ego of actor Donald Glover, as well as Canadian rapper Drake and Kendrick Lamar, were among several influential stars who were no-shows at the biggest night in music.

Jada Pinkett-Smith simply said, "We express our pain, power and progress through music.every voice we hear deserves to be honoured and respected", prompting an "Amen" from Michelle Obama.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama received a standing ovation from the crowds at Sunday's Grammy Awards as she made a surprise appearance.

The former USA first lady joined host Alicia Keyes on stage during the latter's opening monologue, along with Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jennifer Lopez.

An emotional Gaga said: "They said I was weird, that my look, my choices, my sound - that it wouldn't work, but music told me not to listen to them". We all need each other, right? His speech appeared to be cut off by the show's producer.

Plus, Alicia is the first female to host the ceremony in over a decade.

Dolly - who was honoured with the MusicCares Person of the Year award - stole the show early on in a striking red dress which featured feather detailing, silver embroidery and a ruffled hem. Mendes was also nominated for pop vocal album of the year for his self-titled third album, but Ariana Grande's Sweetener won that, leaving Mendes empty-handed for the evening.
