Man Utd boss Solskjaer: PSG experience (& Kimpembe not seeing red) was difference

PSG go away to Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League tonight

Because of his ill-fated season-long spell with Manchester United during the 2014-15 campaign, much of the build-up to Tuesday night's Champions League last-16 tie at Old Trafford centred around Paris Saint-Germain's Angel Di Maria.

Buffon was named in PSG's starting XI and the 41-year-old became only the third keeper after Edwin van der Sar and Iker Casillas to reach 50 Champions League clean sheets.

Second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe earned PSG, without Neymar and Edinson Cavani due to injury, a comfortable win at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

As if being beaten 2-0 by a rampant PSG was not bad enough, Solskjaer also had to watch two of his in-form forwards - Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial - limp off with injuries, while the red card Paul Pogba received in the closing stages will rule the France midfielder out of the return leg in his home city on March 6.

PSG showed they still retain plenty of world class talent despite their big name absentees as United struggled to contain the slick passing of Thomas Tuchel's men in midfield and the pace of Mbappe in attack. He obviously hates YOUR football team and has no interest in synchronised swimming. United need a coach to make a difference at this level, in the way that Tuchel did by overcoming injury and tactical headaches to secure victory.

"We've got Chelsea and Liverpool in the next two games so whoever feels sorry for themselves will not play the next game", Solskjaer said. "Top four is one thing but we want to be at the top", added Solskjaer.

"At this club you bounce back, you have to bounce back", he said.

The 20-year-old World Cup victor slotted a huge chance wide on the half hour mark, although Mbappe would likely have been ruled offside by VAR, on its introduction to the Champions League, even if he had found the net.

As Di Maria sent in a cross, Mbappe darted between center backs Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof and clipped the ball under goalkeeper David de Gea for his 23rd goal of the season. We're going to continue.

"The second goal was quality by them".

And any hope of a United comeback in Paris suffered another huge blow when Pogba was dismissed late on for catching Dani Alves with a raised boot.

■ NICOLO ZANIOLO'S double sealed a 2-1 win for Roma over Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Stadio Olimpico.
