Kyler Murray Has Officially Made A Decision On The NFL

Kyler Murray

Murray was already slated to attend the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February, where he'll be one of the most watched prospects.

The Heisman victor tweeted Monday that he will be playing football over baseball, making him an intriguing quarterback prospect in April's draft.

His NFL draft status remains unclear, but he is projected by many to be drafted in the first round.

Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy victor, Murray was the ninth overall selection by the A's in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft last June and received a $4.66 million signing bonus.

Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray speaks during an NCAA college football media day on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Oakland, which started spring training workouts Monday, had a locker with a No. 73 jersey waiting for him. "Football has been my love and my passion my entire life".

Murray made no mention of the A's or baseball in his statement.

The Oakland Athletics selected Murray with the ninth pick of the 2018 MLB draft after posting a.296 batting average and 10 home runs as a centerfielder for Oklahoma's baseball team past year. "I was raised to play QB and I very much look forward to dedicating 100% of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL Championships". Billy Beane, Oakland's executive vice president of baseball operation, said talks are continuing with Murray, who may drop baseball to pursue an National Football League career. "The situation is fluid right now and based on a historic college football season that the young man had".

ESPN's Todd McShay, in the 2.0 version of his mock draft before Murray's announcement, had the Oklahoma product going 13th overall to the Miami Dolphins. He added 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

"Obviously the fact that he would want to play quarterback, if he chooses the football route, is a little different than Deion or Bo or some of those guys", Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said in November.
