Joy Behar Under Fire After Photo of Her in Blackface Resurfaces

Joy Behar

During the episode in May 2016, Behar had brought up a New York Times op-ed praising naturally curly hair - and then showed viewers a photo of herself with tan skin and short, dark, curly hair.

"I was so cute", Behar responded.

Joy Beharis coming under fire for a past Halloween costume in which she wore blackface.

During the morning show on Thursday, Behar and the other co-hosts did not address the issue.

Former co-host Raven-Symoné was shocked when the photo first appeared on screen. "Are you my auntie, Joy?" the star asks.

On Friday, Gov. Ralph Northam apologized after the emergence of a photograph on his 1984 medical school yearbook page that featured a man in blackface and another in KKK garb.

She said she used dark makeup to help with her "costume" and that the curly hair was her own.

ABC News' "The View" co-host Joy Behar remained stone silent Thursday regarding old footage of her donned in blackface that was unearthed this week as similar images have caused outrage and derailed careers.

"It was a Halloween party, I went as a handsome African woman", Behar, an original host of The View since its debut 20 years ago, explained.

This week, Virginia's governor and attorney general are being criticizedfor their use of blackface.

"I think the question is...where's the line?", one Twitter user commented.

Footage of Behar dressing up as a "beautiful African woman" was resurfaced by TheWrap media editor Jon Levine on Wednesday amid a series of blackface scandals making national headlines.

"That's my actual hair though", she said. Conservative blogger Matt Walsh wrote, "Megyn Kelly was sacked from her show for asking a hypothetical question about blackface".

During the 2016 segment, Behar, an outspoken liberal, displayed a 1970s-era photo of herself at a Halloween party when she was 29.

"Yeah, but you ain't black", Symoné said under breath.
