Heyman: Bryce Harper is 'not signing, considering short-term deals'

Phillies need to 'grossly outbid' Giants to get Bryce Harper

The San Francisco Giants are now the favorite to sign Bryce Harper, according to oddsmakers. They've already traded for starter James Paxton and signed free agent infielders Troy Tulowitzki and DJ Lemahieu, among other moves.

In that conversation, Nightengale, who predicted in the fall Harper would sign with Philadelphia, that the race for Harper is down to two teams: San Francisco and Philadelphia.

The Giants met with Harper at his hometown, Las Vegas, last week and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi admitted it was a positive meeting and made it clear they were serious pursuers of the player. San Francisco planned to offer him a lucrative short-term deal.

The question is, what under-the-radar teams still have a shot at Harper and Machado, and do they have enough talent to make a postseason run without those stars? "It's a two-team race here".

"Right now I really do think it's the Giants and the Phillies".

Nightengale said Harper's decision will ultimately come down to the all-mighty dollar.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants are the two teams Nightengale believes are still in it for Harper.

"With the Giants moving in and all the optimism, I do believe it's a coin flip".

The Giants are reportedly interested in offering Harper a massive short-term contract, while the Phillies could give him the long-term deal he's seeking. The Padres have been aggressive with both Harper and Machado late in free agency and have been pushing to land one of them.
