West Indies are ranked ninth in the ICC one-day rankings and face a number one-ranked England side, already pencilled in as firm favourites to win the World Cup at home later this year.

I'll be bringing some experience to play and sharing that with the youngsters and I hope to enjoy the next couple of months with the West Indies cricket team.

After missing tours to India and Bangladesh in order to pursue short-form contracts, the 39-year-old Jamaican makes his West Indies return against England on Wednesday in the first one-day global at the Kensington Oval.

Gayle made the announcement on Sunday just ahead of a Windies practice session leading up to the ODI series against England at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The 39-year-old left-hander has scored 9,727 ODI runs, which is second only to Brian Lara among West Indians in 284 matches since his debut in 1999. "I'll be looking to put my input in as well", he added. "It's a possibility that it might be the last time they get to see me on local soil".

With the odds yet again firmly stacked against West Indies in the upcoming One-Day International series, marquee batsman Shai Hope says the Caribbean are bracing for a strong challenge from England but also plan to counter with firepower of their own.

He will continue to be available for T20s, and he said is is keen to play in the England and Wales Cricket Board's inaugural 100-ball competition in 2020. He is one of only six men to have scored an ODI double hundred. Gayle was named the Player of the 2006 Champions Trophy, in which he slammed three centuries in eight matches, scoring 474 runs, besides taking eight wickets in as many matches. "Definitely, in 50-over cricket, the World Cup is the end for me and then, I will let the youngsters have some fun and I can sit back and go into the Party Stand and watch them having some fun", Gayle said.

"Yes, I'm looking to draw the line after the World Cup". "I guess England should invite me over".

"He has done well and Lucas is happy, because I knew him when he was a schoolboy trying to make the cricket teams at Lucas, and from the beginning we saw the quality, and he has developed and he has achieved".

Chris Gayle is a great T20 batsman. They are saying 'he's got a few grey hairs in his beard, let's get him.' But my body feels good.
