As we've seen with the measles outbreak in Washington and OR, there is a very real risk when parents buy into those half-truths, according to CBS News' Dr. Tara Narula.

The anti-vaxxer movement is seeing signs of revolt.

Several news outlets have reported that unvaccinated teens are taking to Reddit to ask adults for advice on how they can get the shots without their parents knowing.

"I haven't got vaccines since elementary school, Dad fell down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole, and my Mom agrees with him". Here's what you need to know.

"The science community nearly entirely supports vaccinations", said Ethan Lindenberger who was recently vaccinated.

Lindenberger posted his plea on the subreddit r/NoStupidQuestions back in November looking for a way to get vaccinated on his own. "It's stupid and I've had countless arguments over the topic". He wrote: "God knows how I'm still alive".

Lindenberger has more shots scheduled for later this month.

"So I went to the public health department in my local town and spoke to some of the people there", he told Fox and Friends, "and they were very kind and they gave me information".

'I'm also afraid I'd go somewhere that up charges vaccines way more than somewhere just down the street.

Ethan Lindenberger, 18, from Norwalk, Ohio, was reportedly never vaccinated before because his mother, Jill Wheeler, who owns a children's theater company, believed the now-discredited claims that vaccines routinely cause autism and brain damage.

"More children in the WHO European Region are being vaccinated against measles than ever before; but progress has been uneven between and within countries, leaving increasing clusters of susceptible individuals unprotected, and resulting in a record number of people affected by the virus in 2018", the United Nations agency said this week in a news release. But Ethan Lindenberger has other concerns.

Lindenberger said that his mother has tried to convince him to stop getting vaccines, but to no avail.

"There's a degree of feeling like, you know, he doesn't trust what I say as a parent", Wheeler said. "Any advice on what to do?" reads another posting on the Internet message board.

A new case of measles has been confirmed in British Columbia - the province's second case of the virus this year.

The doctrine is a legal measure that accepts that a minor, even if they are not emancipated from their family, possesses the maturity to decide if they want a particular health care treatment. The vaccination he finally got guards against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), chickenpox and polio; polio can cause paralysis and in some cases lead to death. He says he regrets insulting the intelligence of his parents in the original Reddit post and urges other teenagers to be transparent and positive with parents when seeking permission to immunize.
