#CAS19: Toyota Goes Hard Core With Fifth-Generation RAV4 TRD Off-Road
Exclusive TRD all-weather floor mats and rear cargo mat capture the mud, sand and water dragged in from the outside and easily shake out for cleanup.
The TRD off-road suspension system has been created to enhance body control and smooth drivability on trails and rough urban roads.
The Tacoma has been America's best-selling midsize pickup for 14 years running, and the 2020 models introduced at the Chicago Auto Show are the best-equipped ever. Sales remain steady, as most buyers value the Sequoia's incredible reliability, body-on-frame construction and towing ability, and rugged off-road capability. The TRD Off-Road version gets the TRD Sport's cosmetic revisions and an optional Multi-terrain Monitor, which scans the surface under the vehicle.
Smartphone compatibility as well as Amazon Alexa integration will be standard on all versions of the refreshed pickup truck, from base SR through the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited trim levels.
Like all the other TRD Pro models, the new Sequoia TRD Pro gets legendary Fox Shocks. Those new wheels are four pounds lighter than before, which prompted tuning changes to the Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks and springs.
The 5.7-liter V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission are both unchanged, but a cat-back exhaust is available as an option for a more distinctive sound.
The Sequoia TRD Pro will go on sale later this year, and its price should come in somewhere around the mid-$60,000 range, sitting close to the top of the lineup, which is now represented by the $68,930 Sequoia Platinum. In addition to adding the Sequoia, the package gets some updates this year. The Toyota RAV4's MID will show torque allocation and slip control data while in off-road mode. Low range is accessible on the fly via a rotary knob, while the center differential locks at the push of a button.
The 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro gets a few upgrades for 2020 including new sequential LED/DRL headlamps and black-insert tail lamps, 16-inch wheels and Rigid Industries LED fog lamps, in addition to a new Army green exterior color.
Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), standard on every Tacoma grade, includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
