Although awareness about diseases such as cancer shouldn't be confined to just one day out of 365, events like World Cancer Day are a great opportunity for advisers to kickstart what can often be a hard conversation with clients who may not have protection in place.

Around 110 women die every day and 40,000 every year due to breast cancer in Pakistan which is alarming and demands us to act quickly and effectively to counter the menace.

The head of the HZJZ Cancer Registry, Mario Šekorija, said the number of people with malignancies was constantly rising, mostly due to higher life expectancy and the increasingly high number of elderly people.

February 4 is World Cancer Day- global observance that helps raise people's awareness of cancer and how to prevent, detect, and treat it. Get educated about their specific risk factors as well as when to start and how often to receive cancer screenings. For example, in the United Kingdom we screen for bowel cancer at 50, and for cervical cancer at 25, but what about people who don't fit into these age brackets?

When a cancer is detected at an early stage - and when coupled with appropriate treatment - the chance of survival beyond five years is dramatically higher than when detected at a later stage when the tumour has spread and the disease is more advanced.

The day targets misinformation, raises awareness, and reduces stigma.

Stephen Spiteri said that patients as well as NGOs in the cancer sector need to be given more space in the design of national and European policies in this field. This is done by implementing systematic, equitable and evidence-based strategies for prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and palliation using available resources.

The organisation, in its admonition, observed that no matter what resource constraints a country faces, when well-conceived and well-managed, NCCP helps reduce the cancer burden and improve services for cancer patients and their families.

Experts and stakeholders in the fight against cancer have attributed the swelling number of deaths to late diagnosis and gaps that exist in the awareness campaigns.

Of pressing need is integrating national cancer control programmes into health systems at every level. In addition, they proposed that there be more support offered to children who have a parent battling cancer.

"Cancer death rates have decreased by more than 10% in the last decade, and early detection is crucial to this".

Facilitate a major shift in early diagnosis research.Catching cancer earlier! That includes going beyond the fanfare of a launch.
