Angel Di Maria blames Louis van Gaal for Manchester United struggles

PSG injuries push di Maria onto centre stage upon his Old Trafford return

Reaction to Ashley Young's one-year contract extension may have been lukewarm last week, but Manchester United fans are now showering their defender in praise following an incident with Angel Di Maria.

He was returning to Manchester for the first time since leaving for the Ligue 1 team a season later, following a poor, trophy-less year at Old Trafford, for PSG's last 16 first leg tie in Europe's elite competition, and United fans didn't exactly roll out the red carpet for the former Red Devil. The United man did manage to get away from the Brazilian midway through the first half and impressively breezed past PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe on the right touchline - but his cross was too near to veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. Di Maria has since thrived in France and enjoyed the best individual season of his career in 2017/18.

Di Maria was clearly fired up and utilised his limited grasp of English to taunt the Old Trafford crowd during the celebrations.

In the absence of Neymar and Cavani, di Maria's performance will be of further importance to PSG on a night when he was always going to be scrutinised anyway due to his past connections with United.

Later, he blew kisses to the stands and imitated drinking from a bottle that was hurled at him by a fan.

Eventually, it was made clear that Pogba had been shown a second yellow card for his poorly timed challenge on Dani Alves, having already been booked in the first half.

"Although VAR was in action last night, Orsato was not able to review this incident as second yellow cards can not be checked. If you tease him, it does not make him weaker", he said, Sky Sports reported.

PSG superstar Angel Di Maria has blamed Louis van Gaal for his nightmarish stay at Manchester United during the 2014-15 campaign. 90 more minutes are missing To continue working for what is coming.
