'Absolutely Shameful': Rep. King Blasts Rep. Omar for Anti-Semitic Rhetoric

Jewish Group Slams Rep. Omar For 'Stunningly Anti-Semitic' Comment

Rep. Ilhan Omar, who once stirred outrage by claiming, "Israel has hypnotized the world", came under fire again Sunday by claiming that a pro-Israel lobby pays off American politicians.

Rather than acknowledge the explanation that Congress tends to support Israel because Americans in general broadly support Israel - with almost two-thirds favoring Israel over the Palestinians - Omar doubled down throughout the evening against the "Israel lobby".

Greenwald accused McCarthy of unjustly attacking the freshmen Muslim congresswomen, to which Omar replied, "It's all about the Benjamins, baby". "We urge you to join us in calling on each member of our Caucus to unite against anti-Semitism and hateful tropes and stereotypes", they wrote.

Host Bill Hemmer noted that Democrats like Chelsea Clinton and Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.) have called out Omar, which King applauded while noting the Democratic leadership has been "shamefully silent".

Other responses were more critical, including that of Chelsea Clinton, who wrote, "We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in antisemitism".

GOP groups, including the National Republican Campaign Committee, blasted Omar over the remarks.

She added: "I know that if we saw that in another society we would criticize it - we do that to Iran and any other place that upholds its religion". "She might as well call us hooked-nosed". "Implying that Americans support Israel because of money alone is offensive enough. And I believe we can do that without criticizing people for their faith", Omar tweeted at the former first daughter. "But to go a step further and retweet someone declaring their pain at her sentiment is simply unacceptable".

AIPAC has issued the following statement: "We are proud that we are engaged in the democratic process to strengthen the U.S. -Israel relationship. I look forward to building an inclusive movement for justice with you".

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar on Sunday sparked criticism and charges of anti-Semitism by suggesting Republican advocacy for Israel was a matter of money.
