3 takeaways as OKC Thunder win behind Russell Westbrook’s historic triple-double

Russell Westbrook

The figures make George and Westbrook the first teammates in National Basketball Association history to record triple-doubles in the same game with both players scoring at least 20 points in the process.

A drive and kick to set up Paul George for a 3-pointer made National Basketball Association history Monday night: a 10th consecutive triple-double, breaking Wilt Chamberlain's mark of nine straight set in 1968.

However, George also notched a triple-double of his own, racking up 47 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Thunder: The Thunder have had a very solid season thus far, as they have gotten MVP-level play from Paul George, and nearly-nightly triple-doubles from Russell Westbrook.

It was Westbrook's 23rd triple-double of the season and the 127th of his career. After all, he has averaged triple-doubles over each of the last two seasons and is aiming to average one yet again this year.

"There is no other person who has led in triple doubles year after year".

Westbrook was given a standing ovation when he achieved the feat by laying on an assist for Paul George in the final quarter of a 120-111 win.

Westbrook figured he might as well get a different kind of assist.

"I just go play the game the right way". Go out and compete every night and leave it on the floor, and whatever happens, happens. If the Thunder get high-level play from their two All-Stars they should be able to walk away with a win. "I think a lot of the things he does that he gets attention for in terms of the triple-doubles are things that impact winning for our team".

It took Felton just six minutes to score seven points. McCollum shot 4 for 15. Burton hit a 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer. "The energy was awesome".
