Samsung unveils brand new 5120×1440 49-inch gaming monitor

Space Monitor

"All of these monitors are part of our larger strategy this year, to keep giving you choices so you can get what you want - beautiful, hardworking devices that inspire you to do more", said Seog-gi Kim, Executive VP of Samsung's Visual Display Business.

Finally, Samsung's new "Space Monitor" has at least one novel feature - you can push this bad boy back and store it flat against the wall.

The monitor has an integrated space-saving solution in the form of a fully-integrated arm that can clamp to the desk and free up space.

The Space Monitor is equipped with a "zero-level Height Adjustable Stand", which supports viewing from a height of 8.4 inches (213 mm) above the desktop to the surface of the desk, with the hinge touted as being capable of withstanding over 5,000 adjustments. It features support for 1 billion colors and a 2,500:1 contrast ratio. The 27-inch has 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with a gaming-friendly 144Hz maximum refresh rate, while the 32-inch 4K display maxes out at 60Hz.

You can position Samsung's Space Monitor against the wall, hovering in the air, or flush against your desk. The CRG9 may not be the best for content creation but should provide a superior gaming experience with its QHD resolution and 1,000 nits of brightness on top of its Quantum dot technology for some of the best color reproduction in the industry. The monitor features slim design and a two-pronged base that reduces space taken.

South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. will showcase new versatile monitors for another round of contest of its signature quantum-dot technology pitted against archrival LG Electronics Inc.'s organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology for leadership in next-generation display, at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 in Las Vegas on January 8.

The Space Monitors (SR75) will initially ship in 27- ($400) and 32-inch ($500) versions, which are in preorder now though not expected to ship until March 2019. It also offers picture-by-picture functionality and a smaller stand size for efficient space usage. The 4K UHD curved UR69C offers incredible detail to content creators.

No information was released on pricing or availability as of yet. The 1500R curvature delivers a truly immersive experience optimized for creating content and art, watching videos or gaming while reducing the eye strain typically associated with long periods of traditional monitor use. We don't yet know what input options the monitor will feature. However, you can pre-order those other monitors now, while the CRG9 won't be available until later in 2019.
