Oscars 2019 will have no host for first time in 30 years

The producers and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Oscars, are looking for top talent needed to carry the telecast, which is just six weeks from airing live, on February 24, from Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. Hart dropped out within hours of being selected, when he refused to apologise for his past homophobic remarks that emerged on Twitter just after his selection.

The prestigious Academy Awards show highlighting Hollywood's most notable films and talents is radically changing its format after 30 years.

The Academy nearly reconsidered Hart after he agreed to sit down with talk show host Ellen Degeneres in early January.

Nothing is set in stone yet as THR says "specific details are still being hammered out about how the actors who play the popular characters will be incorporated into the 91st Oscars ceremony". Ellen tried to encourage him to return, even calling the Academy to reinstate Hart.

Unnamed sources told the magazine that producers plan to move ahead without a major headliner and instead fill the show with various skits, segments and musical numbers performed by a variety of Hollywood stars. "For the last time, I am done addressing this".

The problem with that is that this would be the first time since 1989 that the Oscars went hostless, and that night also had a variety show vibe to it.

The producers are reportedly looking to assemble as many cast members as possible from Marvel's Avengers for an Oscars reunion.
