Ocasio-Cortez Criticized After Failing to Provide Workers’ Compensation Coverage

Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Greg Walden and ranking member Frank Pallone speak during the markup of the the American Health Care Act the Republican replacement to Obamacare on Capitol Hill in Washington

Just kidding, she'll keep on plugging away on the exact social and environmental reforms she has been, which will ultimately do more to save us than Joe Lieberman ever did.

Nancy Pelosi, left, swears in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff hit back at the Democrats quoted in the Politico piece, comparing them to King George III during the American Revolution, and approvingly quote-tweeting a tweet comparing them to people who opposed civil rights demonstrations in the 1960s.

According to the NYDN, a "Democratic campaign veteran scoffed that "it's not a great look" for Ocasio-Cortez that her campaign received a fine for not carrying workers' compensation coverage".

"With all respect, I certainly hope she's not the future and I don't believe she is", he said. "There's a difference between being an activist and a lawmaker in Congress".

How did Ocasio-Cortez respond?

They both unseated a fellow Democrat and share Puerto Rican roots.

"Washington is a political animal where a lot of the work that you want to accomplish depends on relationships within the Democratic Caucus", Velázquez said. In June, she beat Crowley and last November she was elected to Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is now part of the 116th class of Congress, which also happens to be the most diverse, with a record number of women winning seats in the House of Representatives.

"She's new here, feeling her way around", added Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Ore. "The so-called champion of workers, when given her own responsibility, is not following the law".

"I think she needs to give herself an opportunity to know her colleagues and to give herself a sense of the chemistry of the body before passing judgment on anyone or anything", Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) said.

"People are afraid of her", said one senior Democratic aide.
