Memory monster! Lexar launches 1TB SD card

Lopez added that Lexar's new 1TB SD card "offers a solution for content creators who shoot large volumes of high-resolution images and 4K video".

You might be about to comment that SanDisk was in fact the first firm to show off a 1TB SDXC card; you'd be right, but that memory card never made it to market, so by that metric Lexar was the first. Now, it's been beaten to the punch by Lexar's Professional 633x line of SDHC and SDXC UHS-I cards, which have capacities ranging from 16GB up to 1TB.

Lexar unveiled The Professional 633x SDXC UHS-I, a memory card with the capacity to store 1 terabyte of photos and video, at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.

Demonstrating just how far portable storage has come in a few short years, Lexar says that it was only 15 years ago that it launch a 1 GB SD card. So, the Lexar's latest SD card is the first commercially available 1TB SD card you can actually buy. A quick search on Amazon reveals multiple 512GB SD cards for less than $250 each, making two of them the cheaper way to get 1TB of storage. To put it in context, the 1 TB SD card should hold somewhere between 30-35 total hours of 4K video footage, depending on bitrate and framerate.

But all that convenience comes at a cost, of course.
