Man who killed police officer had been ordered to surrender AR-15

Authorities say Kevin Limbaugh left this note after he was found dead in his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound

The note found in his home reads in part, "the Davis police are hitting me with ultrasonic waves meant to keep dogs from barking".

The gunman who ambushed and killed a California cop left behind a letter ranting about how police were targeting him with "ultra sonic waves", authorities said.

The Yolo County coroner said Saturday the man was 48-year-old Kevin Douglas Limbaugh. I am highly sensitive to its affect (sic) on my inner ear.

Limbaugh is accused of murdering Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona, 22, on Thursday in a rampage. "I did my best to appease them, but they have continued for years and I can't live this way anymore".

Police spokesman Lt. Paul Doroshov said the paper was found face up on the gunman's bed. Firefighters were at the scene-their department was near where it happened-and had tried to save her, Pytel said.

Inside the suspects Davis home, detectives also found two semi-automatic handguns, a 9 mm and a.45-caliber, one partially hidden in a shoe.

Police said a gunman on a bicycle ambushed the officer, shooting her from the shadows as she investigated a vehicle accident, then reloaded and narrowly avoided wounding others before walking home. He then unleashed a barrage of bullets that struck a bus, firetruck and a young woman's backpack. The chief said as police began to surround it, he stepped outside wearing a bulletproof vest. After reloading a second time, the gunman approached a fire rescue squad, prompting a firefighter to run.

The officers never fired at him.

The shooting wasn't Limbaugh's first brush with the law.

Limbaugh had been involved in a fight in September with a co-worker at Cache Creek Casino Resort, about 40 miles northwest of Sacramento, according to police and court records.

In November, Limbaugh was ordered to turn in a black.223 Bushmaster AR-15 semiautomatic rifle.

More than 1,000 mourners attended a Saturday evening vigil for Corona.

"What brings us together is a really, really sad incident and one gathering is not going to change that", Davis Mayor Brett Lee said. She had just completed six months of field training when she was ambushed while checking driver's licenses during a routine call.
