LG Launches Rollable OLED TV with a 4K Flexible Screen

LG Display declares war on motion blur with big screen OLED panels

Previous year we included LG's rollable TV concept in our most mind-blowing gadgets from CES 2018, and now the television of the future is back at the popular tech expo in Las Vegas, and is ready to be the companies flagship 4K OLED TV for 2019. LG has created a TV with a display that uses revolutionary flexible screen technology that allows the screen to roll up and roll back out when needed. The screen technology now features Dolby Atmos sound system on the OLED screen directly, thus eliminating the need of external speakers. In an industry first, a new iTunes movies and TV shows app will debut exclusively on Samsung Smart TVs.

A demonstration showed that the 65-inch (165 centimetre) screen could disappear completely into the base, extend just part way to display photos, act as a control screen for smart devices, or rise completely for full viewing. The remarkable AI picture and sound quality powered by LG's second generation α (Alpha) 9 intelligent processor and deep learning algorithm puts this breathtaking TV in a class of its own. Toward the notion of big reveals taken literally, display and general electronics manufacturer LG has unveiled its latest display, a beastly 88-inch 8K OLED HDTV sporting in excess of 33 million pixels.

Other LG Display prototypes include portable desktop monitors that can be moved around easily, and a transparent OLED screen that could help a window double as a TV or a surface for ads. In the Line View, users can choose from features such as Clock, Frame, Mood, Music and Home Dashboard.

Voice control continued to be the popular addition for all the TV companies, as they also added more support for popular voice assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa.

The company newest TVs will also have support for Apple's AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit meaning users can Mirror their TV with their Apple devices such as their iPhone, iPad or MacBook. While this isn't new by any means as we've seen some 8K panels on display in the previous years as well, this time the panels are market ready, and some will even go on sale in 2019.

Although LG has undoubtedly saved plenty of news and announcements for its big conference, the company actually gave us a sneak peek at its 2019 TVs last week. Its price was not disclosed, but it will be among LG's premium television lineups. The company did not say when it would sell the technology or how much it would cost.
