Ex-Clippers F Griffin scores 44 in Pistons' win

Griffin has 44 points in return against Clippers

The starting lineup for the Clippers included two players who came to Los Angeles in the Griffin trade; forward Tobias Harris and guard Avery Bradley.

Blake Griffin made a turbulent return to Staples Center, scoring 44 points as the Detroit Pistons toppled the Los Angeles Clippers, 109-104, on Saturday, January 12 (Sunday, January 13, Manila time).

Griffin got the game off to a strong start with 15 points in the first quarter. Reggie Bullock, another former first-round pick of the Clippers, scored 17 points for the Pistons, who had lost nine of 11.

"There was a lot of hype coming into this game and I was looking forward to it, but I'm glad that it's over", Griffin said.

Griffin averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 8 seasons in Los Angeles. Lou Williams added 22 points, and Montrezl Harrell had 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Clippers tied the game up at 97 on a 3-pointer from Williams. Griffin did not even look at Ballmer before breaking into a trot and heading for the locker room.

The Clippers went on a run themselves but ultimately came up short - a steal from Bruce Brown with 21.2 second remaining followed by a pair of free throws sealed the deal for the Pistons.

The Pistons maintained a 65-54 advantage at the half, then scored the first five points of the second half to take their biggest lead at 70-54.
