Trump tweets himself singing Green Acres before Farm Bill signing

"Not too much of it, but put it on, '" said Trump, a former reality TV star.

US President Donald Trump tweeted a clip of himself and an actress dressed as farmers singing the Green Acres theme to celebrate the 2019 farm bill, catching the media off-guard amid tension over the coming government shutdown.

Trump had voiced strong support for stricter work requirements.

In less than 20 minutes, it had gathered nearly 7,000 retweets, more than 20,000 likes and not a few comments wondering whether this was an appropriate way to announce signing the Farm Bill.

The passage of the bill came after months of negotiations to merge the drastically different versions passed by the House and Senate earlier this year. His partner on stage is actress Megan Mullally of Will & Grace.

The farm bill will cost roughly $400 billion over five years or $867 billion over 10 years.

But the current USA president will never let us forget that he and Mullally belted out the theme from Green Acres during the 2005 Emmy Awards.

We're not sure how American farmers feel about Trump linking the agriculture aid bill to the time he sang the theme tune from a show about two socialites moving to the country - but Mullally was definitely not thrilled. "Land spreading out so far and wide - keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside".

But the star of Will and Grace and The Megan Mullally Show, tweeted her dismay at the clip being dredged up from the past.

When Colbert asked if she liked anything about working with Trump, she replied, "I'm not giving him any points for anything, sorry".
