Trainer Battles Coming to ‘Pokemon Go’

Pokemon Go PvP Trainer Battles: How They Work, How To Start, And More

This will keep players from encountering trainers that are outside of their level brackets; therefore keeping battles fair and fun for all involved.

The battle system was the one area that was lacking for the veteran Pokemon fans, but it has just been announced that trainer battles are finally coming to the game Soon™.

The feature will allow players to challenge friends, as well as other trainers they happen across while enjoying the game. However, to ensure an even match, participants must compete in the same Trainer Battle League, which determines the maximum CP of a Pokemon that players can use. So before you went out there and challenge someone, make sure to read these important things about the Pokemon GO Trainer Battles.

Niantic explains in a blog post that battles won't be turn-based like they are in mainline Pokemon games, and Pokemon will be able to use their fast attack and charged attack moves. Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks are allowed, and you can even unlock a bonus Charged Attack using Stardust and Candy. Regardless of the result, both players will receive rewards, including a chance at rare Evolution items.

Niantic promised to bring PVP to Pokémon Go by the end of the year, and today the company has revealed how it should work when it lands later this month. There's no dodging; instead, before your opponent uses a charge attack, you'll have the option to use a Protect shield to block it. Before battling, you can set a battle party in each of the divisions.

If you want to test your skills before you jump into the treacherous waters of Trainer Battles, you can train with team leaders Spark, Candela, and Blanche to get a feel for the feature. According to The Verge, the battles should last around four minutes each, and there's an in-game timer that limits how often you can rotate between your 'mon during the fight.

Pokemon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices. The second attack can be used in any type of battle, and it affords you more flexibility with a Pokemon and the type matchups it's prepared for.
