S. Korea's Moon: Trump wants to grant Kim Jong Un's wishes

South Korea says no timeframe set for visit by Kim Jong Un

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly said on Saturday on his way back here that his second meeting with the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, is likely to happen in January or February next year.

Trump's latest praise for Kim, in the formal setting of a summit with Moon, shows that he is still emphasising his personal rapport despite stalled nuclear talks. -North Korea summit and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to South Korea.

North Korea is seeking security guarantees from the USA and relief from global sanctions.

Mr Moon, who is hoping to host Mr Kim soon on the first trip to Seoul by a North Korean leader as agreed earlier this year, said Mr Trump had asked him to pass on a message.

"There is a possibility that Chairman Kim Jong-un's visit to Seoul may be made within this year, but there's more important things than the timing", he said in translated remarks during a visit to New Zealand. Moon made the comments to reporters on the final day of a visit to New Zealand.

According to several Western media outlets, Trump told them aboard Air Force One after attending the Group of 20 (G20) summit that the meeting would occur early in 2019.

But President Moon stressed the need for Japan's participation in the denuclearization of North Korea and the ongoing peace process. "President Trump has a very friendly view of Chairman Kim and he wishes Chairman Kim would implement the rest of their agreement and that he would make what Chairman Kim wants come true,"...

North Korea has suspended nuclear and missile tests as it tries to improve relations with the outside world, but had been angered by Washington's refusal to ease sanctions.

"Until such time as North Korea abides by its worldwide obligations, full implementation of the United Nations Security Council sanctions resolutions will be essential". The two countries signed a free-trade deal in 2015.

If Kim, a third-generation hereditary ruler, visits Seoul, he would be the first North Korean leader to do so since the end of the 1950 to 1953 Korean War. In June, Trump and Kim opened up dialogue on denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula after months of trading military threats and pointed barbs.
