Romelu Lukaku Blames 'Too Much Gym' For Manchester United Goal Drought

PLAYER RATINGS: Scores of NINE after Manchester United put together their best result of the season so far against Fulham!

The former Chelsea and Everton striker had a good season in front of goal last term, netting 27 times, more than any of his colleagues in the Old Trafford striking department, but things have been altogether more laboured for him this time around.

Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba has finally spoken up on his omission from the Red Devils' 4-1 victory over Fulham in the Premier League encounter played over the weekend.

"In the Premier League, I can not play with the same amount of muscle as global football", he said, as per The Guardian.

"That was something that when I came back I knew straight away: 'Nah, I can not play in this style like this'".

The Manchester United striker said that he spent too much time in the gym, meaning that he was not agile and quick enough to cope with the pace of the Premier League upon his return from Russian Federation.

He also talked about post-tournament fatigue: "After the World Cup, I think I really was a bit exhausted. I just felt great and I think I played great over there, and then when I came back it is a different type of style". So, now I think I am at a decent level and ready to go again'.

The result leaves Fulham rooted to the foot of the table while United move up to sixth - albeit still eight points adrift of the top-four - ahead of their final Champions League group tie in Valencia on Wednesday.

Mata hails 'exciting' Man Utd win after frustrating run

"He also talked about his current work in the gym: "[There is] more prevention in the gym and I am trying to do speed bursts in training and that's the most essential", he added. "I had a hamstring injury, which is something that never happens to me".

Mata was one of four changes to the line-up following the 2-2 midweek draw with Arsenal and made an important contribution, becoming the third Spanish player to score 50 goals and register 50 assists in Premier League history.

Lukaku's gain in size has been noticed in recent matches, with many fans commenting on social media about his early season sluggishness around the pitch and his poor first touch.

"I think I just need to keep working hard", he said.

"Today I think I played with intensity like everybody else did".

Mata said last night's performance was "what we needed".
