Pakistan will no longer fight someone else's war: Imran Khan

Pakistan Urges US to Leave Afghanistan 'As Friend of the Region'

Earlier this week, PM Imran in a meeting with TV anchors and reporters in the federal capital, informed that he received a letter from the USA president. "The exchange was about being blamed for deeply flawed U.S. policies - the military approach to Afghanistan".

PM Imran Khan further added, "there are no sanctuaries in Pakistan".

"Pakistan's action or inaction, as it relates to stability in Afghanistan, has often led to US's frustration", he said, adding that stability in the South Asia region remains the most important mutual strategic interest for both the U.S. and Pakistan.

The Trump administration has suspended hundreds of millions in funding for Pakistan over Islamabad's refusal to take decisive action against terrorist groups orchestrating attacks against US troops in Afghanistan from Pakistani soil. To this, the Pakistan Prime Minister reiterated that "peace in Afghanistan is in Pakistan?s interest" and promised to do "everything" possible. The US has satellites and drones. "They said that we have time and time again asked the Americans, 'Can you tell us where the sanctuaries are, and we will go after them?' There are no sanctuaries in Pakistan", he said.

After visiting Pakistan, the US special envoy traveled to Kabul where he held meetings Thursday with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.Khalilzad then left for Moscow for discussions with Russian officials on regional peace efforts, said the USA embassy in Afghanistan. "We will do everything".

Mr Khan said a precipitous American withdrawal from Afghanistan would lead to a repeat of the chaos of the 1990s. If you did not agree with the USA policy, you were [thought to be] anti-American.

"I do believe that any solution in Afghanistan is going to require the assistance of Pakistan". "I have been saying for past many years that war is no solution to Afghanistan's problem and now it has also been realised by the United States", he added.

On question of future of Pak-US ties, the prime minister noted: "I would never want to have a relationship where Pakistan is treated like a hired gun - given money to fight someone else's war". We are in Afghanistan to help the Afghan people, but we are also in Afghanistan to help ourselves. It not only cost us human lives, the devastation of areas bordering Afghanistan, but it also cost us our dignity. Four U.S. soldiers were also killed by a roadside bomb, the deadliest attack against U.S. forces this year.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg made the comments following the two-day talks ending on December 5, the day after a top USA general said the death toll among Afghanistan's security forces will no longer be sustainable unless urgent measures are taken.

"They are fighting hard, but their losses are not going to be sustainable" unless measures are taken to "correct" recruiting and training issues, Lieutenant-General Kenneth McKenzie, who has been nominated to lead the USA military's Central Command that oversees wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan, said on December 4.

Khan also termed the USA policy of declaring people criticizing American policies as "imperialistic approach". "We raised money, but we are talking to the International Monetary Fund".

Asked if he wanted relations between Pakistan and the United States to "warm up", the prime minister responded, "Who would not want to be friends with a superpower?" "We are not negotiating on behalf of the Afghan people, we are not negotiating on behalf of the Afghan government, we are not in negotiating period". "They must leave. They need to work within their stated intent which these 18 didn't do", she said.

"India rebuffed all my overtures because they have elections and the ruling [BJP] party has an anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistan approach", he added. "I would be on the opposite side of President Donald Trump in terms of economic policy, probably closer to Senator Bernie Sanders". "It cared for the underprivileged, for the people who can't compete in the race".
