'Manipulative and Wrong': Ohio radio station stops playing 'Baby It's Cold Outside'

Cleveland radio station ices out 'Baby It's Cold Outside' from rotation citing #MeToo

But some people apparently got confused, and that has "led to misdirected complaints" to "Kansas City's Christmas Station", which has no plans to yank "Baby, It's Cold Outside" from its all-holiday song rotation, set to run through December 25.

Cleveland's Star 102 WDOK-FM has made a decision to ban the song from its 24-hour Christmas rotation after some of its users complained that the lyrics are inappropriate, especially in the light of the #MeToo movement.

The song, first penned by Frank Loesser (Guys and Dolls) in 1944 as a duet for him to sing with his wife at parties. The duet normally has a male singer offering "a half a drink more" in an effort to keep the woman around, despite her concerns her parents will be anxious.

"It seems very manipulative and wrong", Anderson wrote in a statement.

"The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended", Anderson said.

Other radio stations across the country have pulled the song saying that the lyrics are inappropriate. The song details a back-and-forth, traditionally between a man and a woman, where the man tries to convince a woman to stay the night despite her continued protests, saying, "The answer is no".

Last month one twitter user said in light of the #MeToo movement, the song should be removed from all holiday playlists "once and for all".

The song's lyrics include lines such as "I simply must go". But one of her lines, "Say, what's in this drink?" jumps out in this time of powerful men like Bill Cosby having to pay the consequences of sexual assault.

The song found fame when it was used in the 1949 film Neptune's Daughter.

Complaints: These radio listeners aren't the only ones to complain about the song.
