Singh, the Station House Officer of Syana, who was an investigating officer in the Akhlaq lynching case of Dadri between September 28, 2015 and November 9, 2015, also killed over allegations of cow slaughter was attacked by the mob when he attempted to clear the traffic snarl caused by the vigilantes carrying the carcasses on tractor trolleys blocking a busy road. "Later they became violent, pelted stones and even opened fire at the police", he said. Most of the rioters hail from these three villages which are situated within 3 kilometres from the epicentre of the violence at the Chingrawati police outpost.

The police have registered cases of rioting, attempt to murder and destruction of property against 50 unnamed people.

Police said Tuesday four persons were arrested, but the main suspect, Bajrang Dal district convenor Yogesh Raj, was on the run. Two senior police officers, Additional Director General Prashant Kumar and Inspector General of police Ram Kumar, reached the spot.

A large contingent of security forces have been deployed in Bulandshahr to ensure peace and protection in the area as the situation remains tense.

The troubled district of Bulandshahr has seen many vioelent attacks in the past.

It's unclear when the violence broke out but one eyewitness, a man who works in a school near the police station, told the BBC that he could hear the two sides fighting for more than a half hour and gunshots rang out at regular intervals. "Today my father lost his life in this Hindu-Muslim dispute, tomorrow whose father will lose his life?" "Whose father is next?" he asked tearfully.

Sharing his last conversation with his father, he said: "I had spoken to him one day before the incident".

The mob fury was triggered by the alleged seizure of cow carcasses from a jungle outside Mahaw village. "He should be given martyr status and a memorial should be constructed in his name in our native place", Sunita Singh told reporters. The CM used to chant "gau. gau. gau". The chief minister also announced an extraordinary pension for the dependent family of the deceased inspector and government job for a member of his family. When the police retaliated, a villager was shot and later died from his wound.

They agreed to cremate him after the district administration announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. Following this, the police were informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, the state government led by Yogi Adityanath - a Hindu monk - has immediately assembled a special investigation team to look into the cow slaughter and mob violence in the area.

"The people named above continued to incite violence".
