Bill Cosby Blamed For "Baby It's Cold Outside" Radio Ban

It's The Most Controversial Time Of The Year...For 'Baby, It's Cold Outside,' At Least

Susan Loesser, 74, told NBC this week that her father, Frank Loesser, had no ill-will when he wrote the song in 1944 for him and his wife to sing at Christmas parties.

Frank Loesser, the song's writer, wouldn't be happy about the ban. San Francisco radio station KOIT received negative responses after playing the song recently.

He also said that he thinks the song could bring up bad feelings.

Rather than just relegating her comment to the recesses of my mind while driving, I consciously started listening to it more intensely - and came to the realization that the lyrics were, in fact, those of a date rape song. I would get annoyed because it's a song my father wrote for him and my mother to sing at parties.

Her co-hosts were less sold on the song's innocence.

Mid-West Family Broadcasting Program Director Fletcher Keyes said he took all versions of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" out of rotation on Hank AM 1550 and 97.7 FM Monday.

"I totally get what you're saying about the context", he acknowledged, "but that powerful reaction has to be dealt with". "I just think that it's a light, flirtatious song, and she clearly doesn't seem to be so upset... keep looking at the whole damn - whole darn song before you make your decision". "Keep Baby it's Cold Outside in the air!" tweeted another.

Keyes said there haven't been any complaints about "Baby, It's Cold Outside" to the station, but that the tone of the song in 2018 is different from when it was originally written in the 1940s. "People used to say "what's in this drink" as a joke".

"This song is not about an abuse of power, it is about flirtation and that is how flirtation was in those days", Susan said, adding that she doesn't want the song connected to the #MeToo movement.
