What we know so far from the midterm election results

Voting in midterm elections

Former vice president Joe Biden, often touted as a possible Democratic candidate to take on Trump in 2020, said he'd have been "dumbfounded" not to win the House. Even though two seats are needed, if the Democrats are looking to impeach the president they will still need the support of the Republicans in the upper house. He plans to spend Election Day conducting get-out-the-vote interviews with local media at the White House. But they failed to win the governor's mansions in OH and Florida, two big states where they'd had hopes for marquee victories.

But Republicans appeared bound to hold onto the Senate, and possibly even pick up a couple of seats.

After a hectic week of campaigning, Trump spent Tuesday at the White House awaiting exit polls and final results.

Democrats are expected to hold leadership elections after December 5, potentially allowing other House Democrats to whip support to challenge Pelosi.

"That's what America wants to see". In addition, Fox News is calling this for the Democrats. This time, they're sitting up.

The US midterm elections will be the first test of how Donald Trump's doing as president halfway into his four-year term.

Florida is living up to its history as a cliffhanger state, with Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly in Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota and Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Democrats were buoyed by a wave of Republican retirements and an overwhelming fundraising advantage.

"We're going to do our job; they may think that's a nightmare", said Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland, who will become chair of the House Oversight Committee - a body that showed no appetite for oversight under Republicans for the last two years. "We faced the toughest map in 60 years - and we didn't give up or back down".

But failures to recruit candidates in some of those races hurt the GOP, and Democrats won the fundraising battle. Growth, as measured by gross domestic product, was the most robust for any first-term president heading into the midterms since the Carter administration 30 years ago.

Republicans hadn't publicly given up hope Tuesday though that they could pull off a victory, and continued making their push to voters.

It was the first national election in the United States since the 2016 race in which Russian Federation interfered, according to USA intelligence agencies, with a campaign of hacking and propaganda to sow discord, harm the Democratic presidential candidate and boost Trump's chances.

That was enough for Karim Elmalki, voting in Sterling, Virginia. About a quarter supported him and nearly 40% said their vote was in opposition to the President. The Republican party last year passed the biggest overhaul of the United States tax code in over 30 years, boosting U.S. corporate earnings.

Just weeks before the vote, a Trump supporter allegedly shipped pipe bombs to some of the president's most prominent critics, among them former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros. Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader who has helped pushed through Mr. Trump's judicial nominees.

"What I want to do for you is have my energy be contagious", she said. He's like a shooter.

The Republicans have long claimed that they are the party of the military.

District 7: Democratic candidate Vickie Adamson received 62.88 percent of the vote against Alex Moore, a Republican, who had 37.12 percent.

According to almost all pollsters, the Democrats have a good chance of winning the House, while the Republicans are likely to retain the Senate.
