U-23 bowler Shiva Singh's 360-degree turn hogs limelight

Watch: Left-arm spinner Shiva Singh's 360-degree turn that left Bishan Singh Bedi stunned

The incident has sparked debate on social media with numerous people giving their take on the delivery in question.

According to MCC's clause 20.4.2.7, "either umpire shall call and signal dead ball when there is an instance or deliberate attempt to distract under either of the Laws 41.4 (Deliberate attempt to distract the striker) or 41.5 (Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batsman)".

Shiva Singh's recent unconventional delivery stride was ruled a dead ball when he did a 360-twirl before delivering his left-arm spin.

The 19-year-old, an age-group worldwide, was playing in a domestic Under-23 league match, but his delivery was deemed a dead ball by the umpire.

Uttar Pradesh cricketer Shiva Singh has bowled a 360 degree action with delivery which left the on field umpires and Indian legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi in shock.

If Singh used the 360-turn every time he ran up to bowl, then it would be considered a legal delivery as it would not be an attempt at distraction.

Singh's Uttar Pradesh team ended up beating Bengal in the four day game, with the spinner claiming four wickets despite the dead ball call.

Shiva Singh is in the news for his unmatched bowling action, and it is about "spinning" himself 360 degrees just before his delivery. The umpires said dead ball, so I asked 'why are you calling it a dead ball?' "No Issue at all with this", Michael Vaughan tweeted.

The laws treat the bowler as a fielder.

"The law states that the offence is the attempt to distract the batsman, rather than the striker actually being distracted". Batsmen always go for the reverse-sweep or the switch-hit against bowlers. However, what must be noted here is that bowler did not switch his bowling arm. "But when bowlers do something like this it's deemed a dead ball", he was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
