Twitter celebrates India after they beat three-time champions Australia

Women’s World T20 India beat Ireland enters semis

Mithali Raj, the mainstay of Indian women's cricket for years now, tops the list of India's highest Twenty20 worldwide run-getters.

After the match, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur heaped praises on her girls at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The opener eventually holed out to long on off the bowling of Schutt shortly after Tayla Vlaeminck pulled off the catch of the tournament to remove Veda Krishnamurthy, but India were still able to end Australia's 12-match T20 winning streak despite the late collapse.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that her team is bound to perform well because of the quality in the side. We always enjoy when batting together. She wanted to bat, but we were just playing that smart.

Mandhana, who was having a "slow" tournament until Australia, came to the fore with a brilliant knock of 83 runs from just 55 deliveries, and Harmanpreet chipped in with an explosive 27-ball 43 before the bowlers bowled Australia out for 119. "That's not on our mind as we always come out with the intention of doing well", she added.

"First three matches I got starts but couldn't convert it".

Mandhana gave India a good start after her fellow opening batsman Taniya Bhatia (2) was dismissed in the second over, being caught by Meg Lanning at midwicket off Ashleigh Gardner's ball.

She blasted a four and a six off Sophie Molineux in the 5th over before repeating the treatment to Megan Schutt in the next over to accumulate big runs. Kaur and Mandhana batted extremely well.

Harmanpreet smashed Molineux over midwicket for her first six, while a beautiful-looking sweep shot helped Mandhana to complete her fifty in 31 balls.

In the 14th over, Harmanpreet slapped one over extra cover before depositing a full toss by Kimmince over short fine leg. Australia needed her there, but she has to go.

After a below-par fielding performance against Pakistan, Indian women were excellent against Australia.

Hemalatha (1) too dragged one on to the stumps as India slumped to 136 for 5 in 16.2 overs. Mithali now has scored 2283 runs for India in T20Is.

With Mithali hitting her 17th T20I half-century, she also managed to surpass Bates, Alyssa Healy and Pakistan's Babar Azam to have the most 50-plus scores in a calendar year combining both men's and women's cricketers. She was also forced to leave the field and didn't take part in the rest of the match.
