Tesla announces Elon Musk's replacement as board chair: Robyn Denholm

Tesla names new chair to replace Elon Musk

The electric vehicle maker has announced that Robyn Denholm, who has been an independent director at the business since 2014, will step up to become chairman with immediate effect.

She has only been CFO since October 1 this year, though she joined Telstra in January 2017 as its chief operations officer.

Musk said in August he was considering taking Tesla private in a $420 a share and that he had secured funding for a deal that was later scuttled but attracted scrutiny from several government agencies.

"To ensure a smooth transition during the remainder of Robyn's time at Telstra, Elon will be a resource to Robyn and provide any support that she requests in her role as Chair", Tesla said in a news release.

Tesla said Denholm will be serving as chair on a full-time basis and that she will temporarily step down as chair of the company's audit committee until she leaves Telstra.

Electric auto company Tesla has appointed an executive at Australian company Telstra to chair its board.

Denholm is now chief financial officer at Australian telecoms operator Telstra Corp Ltd and has been an independent director on Tesla's nine-member board since 2014.

Denholm has served on the Tesla Board as an independent director since 2014. She also has worked at various technology companies including Juniper Networks and Sun Microsystems and held finance management posts at Toyota Motor Corp.in Australia.

The settlement in late September with the Securities and Exchange Commission allowed Musk to remain CEO of Tesla but required him to relinquish his role as chairman for at least three years. "Great respect. Very much look forward to working together", Musk tweeted early on Thursday.

Tesla has seen months of turbulence since Musk's infamous tweet.

The tweet was one of a number of public statements by Musk that raised questions in the industry about his aptness to lead the company.
