Gardner deemed it a legitimate tackle as he felt Farrell had made enough of an attempt to wrap his arms in the tackle.

South Africa head coach Rassie Erasmus has been filmed sarcastically instructing centre Andre Esterhuizen to practice tackling high in training this week.

'If that's the only way you can stop people and tackle like that, and it's in the rules, then we should tackle like that'.

Farrell is now free to face the All Blacks at Twickenham on Sunday morning (NZT).

South Africa head coach Rassie Erasmus was asked about the tackle after the game and gave a brilliant sarcastic response, saying the tackle was very "effective" and that "we should do it".

The hot topic since the completion of the match against has been around the Owen Farrell tackle on Andre Esterhuizen.

The same message was again relayed at a Springbok press conference in Paris on Monday when assistant coach Mzwandile Stick said: "World Rugby always sets standards and as the Springboks we always make sure we keep up with and follow those standards".

Given Esterhuizen was on the receiving end of Farrell's big last-play hit, the video, while clever and amusing, is a clear shot at World Rugby's inconsistencies and lack transparency over what is acceptable and what is not.

Many similar instances, though, have resulted in penalties and cards.
