Ottawa Senators' Matt Duchene was one of seven players caught in secret footage taken in an Uber vehicle.

On the tape several Sens players, who were smart to be calling an Uber and not driving, were talking trash about the team and coaches while being driven home.

Passengers have an expectation of privacy while riding in a taxi or an Uber, Cavoukian said.

"Ottawa. If you can tell we're really pleased with our.", Wideman says before a player in the backseat blurts out "with our PK".

"Marty Raymond, the only coach in National Hockey League history to have the worst power-play and the worst PK within a calendar year", Duchene was caught saying, in reference to Raymond, who is in charge of penalty-killing this season and directed the power-play in 2017-18.

"Nothing is more important to us during this rebuild than making sure our players and coaches are fully committed to our plan, our values and our system of play", Boucher said.

Duchene can be heard replying: "Here's the other thing, too. So why do we even have a meeting?" he says in the clip.

Raymond runs Ottawa's penalty kill this season, which now stands as the league's third-worst unit.

The players captured in the video released a statement Monday apologizing for their remarks, while also clearly stating that the footage was both shot and shared without their permission.

In Arizona, as in Canada, recording a conversation is legal as long as at least one person involved in the conversation is aware it is being recorded. He shares his passion for the game every single day and he's always there for us, but I think that's where we're going to leave it. We are grateful for the support of our fans and organization. "This is an important learning experience, and we will do better".

Senators coach Guy Boucher said the team is trying to move forward and concentrate on Tuesday night's home game against New Jersey.

Raymond, in his third season with the Senators, was responsible for the power play for much of last season and is in charge of the team's penalty killing this year.

"Privacy is all about control - the personal control of your information", said Cavoukian, adding it doesn't matter if the players were in the US or in Canada when they were recorded.

Uber did not immediately respond for comment, but includes a lengthy section on privacy on its website. It's not clear who posted the original video.

"Filming or recording passengers without their consent is totally unacceptable and if reported/detected we will investigate", he said. The video had first surfaced on social media.
