Dez Bryant and the New Orleans Saints are reportedly in negotiations after he worked out for the team on Tuesday. Receiver Cameron Meredith, the former Bears receiver the Saints signed to a two-year deal in April, has been dealing with knee issues of late, but he was supposed to take at least some of that role.
Ben Maller thinks that signing Bryant is a no-brainer for the Saints as they would automatically get another dynamic playmaker along side Michael Thomas & Alvin Kamara. There will be no blaming struggles on the quarterback with Drew Brees throwing the ball. Tight end Benjamin Watson has 26 catches, speed receiver Ted Ginn has 12, as does rookie receiver Tre'Quan Smith (who also has a ton of potential).
But as the Saints set their sites on a Super Bowl run, an upgrade at receiver is a glaring need. Thomas leads the team with 70 catches, and he's one of the NFL's best receivers.
The 30-year-old Bryant spent his first eight years in the National Football League with Dallas and last season caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns, including a 50-yard scoring play, for the Cowboys.
Pelissero acknowledged in his report that Bryant has gotten close to agreeing to terms before, turning down an offer with the Baltimore Ravens said to be worth $21-million over three years.
