Rogue One's Cassian Andor to lead new Star Wars TV series

Diego Luna starred alongside Felicity Jones in new Rogue One A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm

Disney said past year that it plans to launch its own streaming service in 2019 and would pull its first-run movies from Netflix to put them on a Disney-branded service.

Disney+ is positioning the Disney+ streaming service as a rival to Netflix, as the corporation's chairman and CEO Bob Iger said on a conference call Tuesday, 'In this era of unprecedented consumer choice, brands matter more than ever. The streaming service was previously said to be called Disney Play, but that was a bad title and Disney+ allows the company to follow in the footsteps of ESPN+, the sports subscription streaming service which Disney already owns.

The show will include a ton of espionage and spy-related missions and adventures that aim to show the Star Wars universe from a different angle.

- “Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+ that will go into production next year. While we've known for a while that the service would incorporate Disney's core brands, Iger revealed that the content will live on five hubs within the service: Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic.

This won't be the first time the actor has reprised this particular role.

What is it? An untitled series starring Tom Hiddleston as Loki, half-brother of Thor and Asgard's most mischievous inhabitant. Luna will reprise the role of Cassian Andor in a prequel series on Disney+, Lucasfilm announced on Thursday.

The Fox acquisition brings Disney a roster of talented television and film executives who, together with their Disney counterparts, can create "a lot more" original programming for Hulu.

It will follow the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor (Luna) during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One.

But most importantly of all, we're really hoping this means Luna will finally get to experience a highly-anticipated scene between Cassian and Jabba the Hutt.

Just when we'll be getting all of this and for how much is still unclear, but Disney+ should debut sometime in later 2019 and cost less than Netflix's current $8-$14 monthly price range.
