Porzingis Has Made No Progress Recovering From Torn ACL

Kristaps Porzingis

A short time later, he posted photos showing himself SPRINTING on a track - an apparent response to Fizdale.

While Fizdale said that Porzingis was "working his butt off", he also noted that the player hadn't yet advanced beyond the light running and shooting that he had been doing before the Knicks started their preseason training.

Porzingis posted two photos of him sprinting Thursday night following comments made by New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale that suggested the Latvian power forward's rehab work hadn't progressed much since before the team's training camp.

It is not yet known when Kristaps Porzingis will return to the NY Knicks following ACL surgery in February, according to a report from Steve Popper of Newsday.

Porzingis averaged a career high 22.7 points per game last season.

Porzingis will be a restricted free agent then and the Knicks are projected to have just more than $30 million available under the salary cap, enough to lure a max value contract in free agency. We like the routine we got him on right now. The Knicks do not have a specific timetable for his return.

"I'm hungry", Porzingis said at the team's media day before the season.

"I'm looking at these guys right now".

If Porzingis is unable to return, that could put him in a tough spot. I can see instantly how he fits, but I'm just trying to keep my mind focused on them.

ESPN's Ian Begley tweeted out Fizdale's statements on him being caught unaware of his player's rehab progress, and how he and Porzingis have already talked it out with each other. "I don't want to get distracted personally as the coach, anxious about if and when he's coming back. I'd rather be focused on the day-to-day task with these guys, and when he gets back that'll just be a gift for me".
