Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized With Fractured Ribs After Fall

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractured three ribs after falling in her Supreme Court office Wednesday night, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

Ginsburg, 85, went home after her fall, but experienced discomfort over the night. In 2012, Ginsburg fractured two ribs.

Ginsburg has persevered on the bench despite several health issues, including scares from both colon and pancreatic cancer and a heart procedure in which she received a stent in her right coronary artery.

Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to his Supreme Court seat in October gave conservative justices a 5-4 advantage on the nation's highest court that could be in place for decades. President Donald Trump and new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker were on hand.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speaks after receiving the American Law Institute's Henry J. Friendly Medal in Washington, DC, on May 14, 2018. Instead she will remain in the hospital.

But she has never missed Supreme Court arguments.

In other words, this isn't Ginsburg's first rodeo, and it sounds like she has a decent shot at bouncing back.

Ginsburg has served on the court for 25 years. Broken ribs typically take six weeks to heal, but it varies from case to case. She is the eldest of the justices, but has not indicated that she plans to retire anytime soon.
