When it comes to styling, the first-ever 8 Series Convertible stays true to the coupe's sensuous appearance and is easily one of the prettiest cars in BMW's vast portfolio.

It has also been revealed that the convertible will be available in similar engine options as the coupe, the new 8 Series Convertible M850i xDrive is the model that is feature in the pictures.

Power is provided by a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (748 Nm) of torque.

The 6 Series Convertible is officially no more, but there's no reason to be sad as BMW is replacing it with this gorgeous droptop.

Practicality-wise, BMW tells us lowering or rising the soft-top takes just 15 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph) with just the press of a button.

After being leaked this morning, the Bavarian manufacturer has detailed its new flagship convertible, which shares just about everything with its hard-topped twin bar the folding fabric roof. BMW also made several small tweaks to maintain reliability and efficiency, including using a stronger type of aluminum alloy for the block, wire-arc-sprayed iron coatings on the cylinder walls, Grafal-coated pistons, high-flow intake ports, and a viscous damper on the crankshaft. An eight-speed automatic will handle the gear changes. Heck, we already saw convertible mules almost completely uncamo'ed back in September, and the final result is pretty identical to the auto in the spy shots.

Each benefits from adaptive M Sport suspension as standard, although the M850i gets an electronically controlled locking differential included from the outset - it's an optional extra on the 840d, though. Concerning safety for open-top cars, BMW developed a rollover protection system. During colder months, you should still be able to drive around with the top down thanks to the neck warmers that are integrated into front headrests.

On the inside, BMW's latest Live Cockpit Professional with satnav and digital instrument cluster is standard, along with Head-up Display. Its starting price is set at $122,395, representing a $9,500 premium on the M850i xDrive coupe hitting showrooms in December.
