The gunman who killed 12 people at a country music bar in Southern California went on social media during the attack and posted about his mental state and whether people would believe he was sane, a law enforcement official said Friday.
Dozens of patrons at the Thousand Oaks, California bar where a gunman killed 12 people late Wednesday are survivors of the massacre at a country music festival in Las Vegas previous year, according to witnesses.
He was "on his way to fulfilling his dream" of serving his country in the USA military, the grieving father added.
As he first spoke with reporters after getting the news, Jason recalled the last words he spoke to his son. Long's cousin, AJ Schramm, told CBS News that Long's father died from cancer when he was young.

Law enforcement agencies, firefighters and other first responders, along with several ambulances, additional units from the California Highway Patrol, Simi Valley and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, reached the spot soon after the shooting was reported.

Ventura county sheriff Geoff Dean said sheriff's deputies were called to Long's home in Newbury Park, five miles west of Thousand Oaks, in April 2018. It is not known when the collision was.
"We have no idea what the motive was at this time", Dean said. "When you call 911, he's one of the guys you want showing up".
