The 25-year-old pop star give the first performance of her new breakup anthem "thank u, next" for the crowd, channeling the hit 1996 film First Wives Club for her all-white girl group ensembles with pals, Tayla Parx and Victoria Monet.

There were some bumps and maybe even a few tears, but she persisted (and managed to find the fun), serving some on-point vocals as always.

Ariana Grande performed her latest single "thank u, next" for the first time on Ellen and her "First Wives Club" dance routine saw her nearly fall down.

As for the performance, it was definitely live as she almost took a faceplant trying to step down from a chair on the wedding reception-inspired set.

In a statement Billboard's vice-president of content Ross Scarano says Grande "consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn't hospitable to that sort of strength in young women".

"One day I'll walk down the aisle. "Only wanna do it once, real bad / Gon" make that shit last / God forbid something happens / Least this song is a smash".

"Thank you for being here. We support you", host Ellen DeGeneres said after the song. You've had a rough year.

What we love most about this video is that Ariana could have totally redone the whole thing, but chose not to.

The singer has dropped thank u, next, from the upcoming fifth album of the same name.

A collection of songs called Nobody Does It Better popped up on sites, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play, with the bio reading: "Right now I'm in a state of mind, I wanna be in like all the time" in Grande's signature upside-down-letter style. Wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh.
