Wozniacki swats aside Sevastova to wear Beijing crown

Wozniacki wins 30th title with China Open victory

"Having won again. eight is my lucky number and it is eight years ago I won here so I felt like it was my year", world number two Wozniacki said.

The win cements an impressive year for the Danish star which saw her win her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, returning her to the world number one position exactly six years after last holding the top spot.

Del Potro's defeat came as a shock for many, and was blamed for being a result of illness by the player, who had been suffering from a cold the past few days.

"I did everything that I can to be better for the final, it wasn't enough time to feel 100 percent", the 30-year-old said.

"Playing against Juan, he was sick today for sure, I could see that", said the all-action Georgian.

"I want to thank my team; Michael [Mortensen, her coach] thank you for being here and helping me out, and of course my dad, who has always been there with me since the start".

Sevastova, who is looking for her second title of the season, has never beaten Wozniacki in four previous meetings.

"Having done everything, all of that, it's pretty unbelievable".

Sevastova edged a tight first set with a solitary break as Osaka's game showed signs of falling apart. The world number 20 made 35 unforced errors in the match, including 21 in the second set, to allow Wozniacki to close out the victory.

However, the Latvian, ranked 20th, hit back and had several chances to draw level against the Wozniacki serve in the eighth game, only for the Dane to eventually hold to lead 5-3.
