According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Tom Hardy super-villain movie has gobbled up a domestic box office of $80 million, and a scary-good global total of over $205 million.
Venom also smashed the record Gravity previously held for the highest-ever October opening, with the 2013 film earning US$55.8 million. Venom marks the first attempt by Sony to build a comic-book universe of their own by using supporting characters of the Spiderverse whose rights Sony owns.
"Venom" also dominated at the global box office with $125.2 million, setting an worldwide record for an October opening. Despite mostly negative critical reviews, audiences are showing up for Venom, and they're liking what they see. A lot of ink has been spilled about the power a rotten "Rotten Tomatoes" score has and how damaging it can be to a film's bottom line.
Kind words: Taylor Kinney said he "couldn't be more proud" of his ex-girlfriend Lady Gaga, 32, following her lauded performance in A Star Is Born. At the global box office, the film has collected 56 million dollars. A Star is Born stormed out of the gates as counter-programming and locked in a $42 million box office. Considering it was directly competing with A Star Is Born, which also took more than $40m, that's pretty damn impressive. Starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, it is directed by Cooper.
While Venom is already in Indian theaters, A Star is Born releases on October 12.
