Pogba says he doesn’t need armband to be leader

Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho have not seen eye to eye recently

The reported friction between Pogba and Mourinho has been a persistent sub-plot over the course of United's struggles, with the France midfielder at one stage claiming the team should "attack, attack, attack".

According to a UK Sun report, the Red Devils Portuguese boss Mourinho, who was in Russian Federation during the mundial warned that the Frenchman might not be focused after helping Les Bleus claim their second World Cup silverware.

"I'm not going to get into it, whether it's (Antoine) Griezmann, Kylian (Mbappe) or Raphael who deserve it much more than me". It's about him giving the best he has to give.

"I can't pick out one of them".

Bad defensive errors, including some amateur mistakes on a throw-in that led to Ayoze Perez running free at the back line, had gifted Newcastle a two-goal lead at Old Trafford.

However, since the end of the global football fiesta, the 25-year-old Pogba has been at war with club boss Mourinho.

"It's hard to concentrate, to start again, to hit hard, because we touched the stars", he told AFP. I spoke with Hugo (Lloris), Blaise (Matuidi), (Raphael) Varane, to say that this World Cup we really had to put everything in place to win it.

The unending saga with the Portuguese tactician, has forced Pogba to consider quitting the Old Trafford outfit, with the pair of Barcelona and Juventus keen to seal a deal.

Los Blancos won an unprecedented three-straight Champions League titles during his reign, but fell short of a significant La Liga challenge in his final season. "I'd like to do that", the midfielder added.

Jose Mourinho last month stripped Pogba of the United vice-captaincy amid reports of frosty relations between the two during the Red Devils' hard start to the 2018-19 season.

"I think he (Pogba) has done it on goal, and I don't think that is right", said Saha.

Pogba was one of six players in Didier Deschamps' squad to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or on Monday, and he believes the prize should go to one of his France teammates.

"For me, a leader isn't someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain's armband".
